Diwata a Filipino Nature Spirit

For my senior Portfolio class I wanted to create something that mixed my love of love of creating characters and plants at the same time. My idea for the Diwata was to have her be a nature spirit that embodies a pre colonized Philippines, so I wanted to form her out of parts that are native to the country. Her skin is formed like the bark of the Rainbow Eucalyptus tree, along with the leaves coming off of her body. The Plumeria on top of her head, the Waling-waling Orchids around her neck, the Rafflesia petals skirt, and the horns of the Visayan spotted deer are all native to the Philippines. Even her clothing was designed from a pre colonized time. In the future I’d like to continue to create work that can share stories or pieces of history that people don't know about.

This is the concept art for the Diwata.
